About Tomi Jenkins
Tomi is known the world over as one of the founding, original members of one of the most successful funk/rock/R&B bands of all time, Cameo. That same band then named The New York City Players, which he sang with at eighteen years old.
Tomi has always been an integral part of the group’s success. Over the course of his career, and over 17 million records sold, his distinctive tenor has helped define the group’s signature sound as much as ex-partner and co-founder Larry Blackmon's "Ow" has. He has also co-written, along with Blackmon, many of Cameo’s biggest hits, such as "Candy", Word Up", "Single Life", "Flirt", "Back and Forth", “She's Strange” and many others.
In 1989, Tomi’s eponymous LP was released on Elektra Records.
On his 2017 solo EP release, A Life To Remember, he tapped into a deep well-spring of creative and exciting, wholly original music.
Along with legendary producer Leon Sylvers lll, Tomi masterfully covered a range of diverse genres.
Currently, Tomi has written and co-produced, with his talented production partners Lee Hurst and Sonte Vales, his next full-length album, titled “Soul Survivor, to be released early in the first quarter of 2023.
He says; “I’m so proud of how the project turned out. Lee, Sonte, and the other gifted pros who contributed to the record provided the perfect soundtrack to my forty-plus years in this business and the words just flowed.”
In addition, Tomi is producing the music for the upcoming film “Icemosis”, written by partner Nate Williams and his younger brother Frost. The film chronicles the rise of a successful, fictional, funk band in the ‘70s and ‘80s. A project to which Tomi is well suited.
"You don't have to be a funk musician to relate, but I can tell you from first-hand experience the script is true to life, and my peers and long-time friends in the business will definitely be able to testify to these experiences these young men go through," he says.
He's also written and published two crime novels, Crime, Love, and Honor, and Hope Park. Finding Kari is his third.
As a successful veteran producer, vocalist, songwriter, performer, and author, Tomi continues to expand the range of his prodigious talents, and his future looks to be as bright as it's ever been.
